Success case: Alguer Airport

Alghero Airport is a key hub for tourism in Sardinia. During the summer months, passenger traffic increases rapidly and is concentrated in specific time slots. Arrivals and departures overlap, and travelers are often under pressure (whether catching a flight, making a tight connection, or collecting luggage), making every minute lost doubly important.

In this scenario, parking ceases to be a mere complementary service and becomes a critical element of the entire airport experience. It must guarantee fast access, operational continuity, and reliability, without interruptions.

The Challenge

Managing airport parking during peak season is not a theoretical exercise. Traffic flows arrive simultaneously, at the same times. The infrastructure operates continuously, and the margin for error is virtually zero. A blocked entry lane, an unread ticket, or a system failure during peak hours: very little is needed to cause queues, service interruptions, and unmanageable operational pressure.

Implemented Solution

Instead of layering technologies, simplification was chosen:

  • Eliminating the need to physically insert the ticket and removing the mechanical components most prone to wear.
  • Introducing high-performance LPR (License Plate Recognition) systems.
  • Centralizing payments in a single high-performance ATM (accepting coins, bills, and electronic payments).
  • Integrating rental vehicle management into the same system.
  • Developing a seat reservation system on the operator’s website.

Redesigning the entry and exit flows to make them smoother and more agile.

Results obtained

During peak traffic periods, the system performed as expected:

  • Faster access.
  • Fewer bottlenecks at the barriers.
  • Continuous operation, even during peak hours.
  • Reduced need for technical interventions.

Two years after the installation of the Aventa systems, the parking garage also recorded a 50% savings in operating and maintenance costs.
