Fira de Barcelona Gran Via

With more than 240,000 m2, Fira de Barcelona Gran Via is one of the largest and most modern exhibition centres in Europe. It has eight halls, connected by a walkway that channels the circulation of visitors, which have the most advanced technical, logistical and service features. Among these, it has 6 underground car parks with capacity for more than 4,500 vehicles and 1 surface car park for logistics.

Original Situation

  • The various car parks on the premises, equipped with control systems from different manufacturers and technologies, had to be managed locally with no capability to centralise their monitoring and control.
  • For the same reason, the issue of prepaid tickets had to be done manually, which created a significant management burden for the customer service team.
  • Given the high percentage of occasional visitors, often from abroad, they were unable to pay for their stay via mobile without having to download and register their details on apps they were unlikely to use again.
  • Configuring the various car parks or sections of them according to the needs of a specific event was challenging without a centralised control system.

Implemented Solution

  • Meypar was awarded the contract for the renewal of the control system. It installed the new generation of EVO access and payment control terminals in all the car parks.
  • The car parks are connected to the Nexus web platform for remote monitoring and management of the car park, a multi-platform interface that enables unattended operation, staff mobility and centralised operation of the car parks.
  • This management tool facilitates the automatic issue of parking passes, as well as facilitating the centralised management of access for regular visitors such as suppliers, logistics companies and other specialists in the sector.
  • The solution integrates an application that allows the payment of the stay without the need to be installed on the users’ mobile devices and with the option to pay via credit card, Google Pay or Apple Pay.
  • The single control centre allows for the instant opening and closing of access points, as well as the allocation of areas to a specific type of user in any of the 7 car parks.

Results Achieved

  • The operator is able to optimise infrastructure utilisation and workforce management by having a single central control to monitor and manage the operations of the 7 car parks, allowing the staff to be allocated to tasks with greater added value.
  • Operating with a single control system centralises and standardises the management of rates, schedules, parking passes and other products. For this same reason, it has the necessary tool to configure the parking facilities according to the event being held, quickly and easily.
  • Furthermore, there is a single point of contact for any requirements regarding new features, support or maintenance.
  • Visitors, whether occasional or regular, can access the most suitable identification and payment methods for their needs, resulting in an improved user experience and a high level of perceived service.
