Passeig de Vic

Passeig de Vic is a car park located in the heart of Vic, a city situated 70 kilometres north of Barcelona. Established in 2004 by local shopkeepers as a service for their customers, it offers 500 spaces for one-time parking, 60 spaces for owners and manages access to 100 private spaces, in addition to 150 parking pass holders and guests of a hotel, with which it has an agreement.

Original Situation

  • The parking control system was based on magnetic stripe technology, a solution with high mechanical complexity and less reliability than barcode reading.
  • The coexistence of equipment from different technological generations made it difficult to incorporate new technologies such as EMV, long-range TAG antennas or payment via mobile applications.
  • Moreover, given the variety of user types and the technological obsolescence of the system, resolving operational issues required significant time investment from the operating team, 24 hours a day.

Implemented Solution

  • Meypar replaced the existing equipment with a parking control system based on QR code technology.
  • The three entry lanes and four exit lanes are equipped with cameras for reading and recognising number plates.
  • All vehicle access points are fitted with long-range TAG antennas integrated with the VIA-T platform.
  • The various pedestrian access points are equipped with pedestrian readers, six automatic pay stations with modules for credit card payments and four of them also accept cash payments.

Results Achieved

  • The time previously required for infrastructure management can now be invested in other tasks of greater added value and improved customer service.
  • At the same time, maintenance costs are reduced due to the simplicity of the QR code reading system.
  • The new access control system, along with a free space guidance system, has significantly improved the flow of traffic at the entrances, exits and within the car park.
  • Customer satisfaction is enhanced by the availability of multiple payment methods, as well as for users of VIA-T, a widely used platform among customers.
